True Sisters by Sandra Dallas

Pros: Reading about the handcarts from a non-LDS perspective really made me think about the reality of what they went through.  When I read LDS accounts I tend to get frustrated by the coating of miracles when really it was mostly just difficult.  Reading this perspective made me want to learn more and it really made me appreciate the strength so many women have showed.  I felt significantly less sorry for pregnant and uncomfortable self.

Cons: It was hard to read about polygamy without the LDS sugar coat.  I struggled with the relationships she presented.  It would be easier if I could admit she was just being hard on the church, but I am sure there were actually many polygamous situations that were pretty ugly.  I am not sure how to come to terms with this concept outside of the most ideal situation.  The author was just generally hard on the male the characters - very little redemptive aspects to their roles.
