Portland Favorites

  • Watching the 35,000 migratory Vaux swifts spiral into the Chapman Elementary School (1445 NW 26th Ave.) chimney during the month of September at sunset.
  • Ordering delicious appetizers and sharing a meal at The Ram Restaurant and Brewery
  • Eating cupcakes at Saint Cupcake(407 NW 17th Ave) - I'm not sure they really taste especially delicous but it so fun to be there!
  • Meandering down NW 23rd Ave where nationally know shops meet indie retailers.
  • McMenamin's Kennedy School - a former elementary school converted into a hotel, movie theater, and retaurant.
  • Going to Moonstruck Chocolates on 23rd. We love the Mayan chocolates and the ones that look like little icecream cones.
  • Tryon State Park - right in the middle of SE portland this park has some nice trails and is a quick get-away.
  • The Rose Gardens
  • Powell's City of Books - a full city block where used books are lined up with new books so you can find just the perfect copy for your style and your budget.
  • Eagle Creek Trail to the point of Punch Bowl Falls
  • Silver Falls State Park - 8 waterfalls in a 2 hour hike - lovely! you can even walk behind two of them.
  • Tulip Festival in Woodburn - not top favorite but fun - go when there will not be much traffice and get a sausage
