Two more classics

So, in and effort to be ready for my new class this coming school year I have been reading lots of classics.  These are all the books I feel like I should have read years ago and have spent countless conversation trying to avoid admitting I hadn't.

The Color Purple - I didn't really like it.  I thought the form of letters was incongruent with the tone.  I do however appreciate the unique perspective of the narrator and do feel myself somewhat changed because I have walked with her a bit.
Catcher in the Rye - I felt like I was stepping right into the minds of each of my high school students.  The disdain and apathy for so much in life.  But that is too bleak to really represent the roundedness of these teenagers and, while the character himself was not flat, the experiences were.  I am glad this was a quick read.
