Greek Tragedies

I don't normally count books I teach in school as books that I have read for the year but since I haven't read these two since college and I did all of the reading at home prior to teaching - I am counting them. Oedipus The King and Antigone by Sophocles.  I was really apprehensive about teach greek tragedy but these books are so surprisingly fascinating.

"Pain changed into, or, let us say, charged with, exaltation.  It would seem that tragedy is a strange matter.  There is indeed none stranger.  A tragedy shows us pain and give us pleasure thereby."
From an essay by Edith Hamilton
