Engaging read (as in staying up after my nightly nursing reading session) but so sad that I would categorize this book as too painful to really appreciate. The events are just one piece of heartache after another. And with a lot of the sadness revolving around violence to women, it was just too hard to read. Still it must be said that Lisa See is has clear storytelling skills and it is hard to put down her narrative. She also creates surprising universalitities in a world that seems so distant from my own.
