Golf Balls chipped and scratched

Only when someone discovered that golfballs with chips and scratches and slices were able to soar further did Spalding Company begin manufacturing balls with imitation defects.   Now a dimpled golf ball will fly almost two and a half times farther than a smooth one.  Isn't that the same with us?  Don't our cuts and gouges cause us to soar further than we ever would otherwise.
