I loved The Atonement so much that I have been looking forward to reading another book by Ian McEwan all year long. So, my analysis of On Chesil Beach may be tainted by my expectations but I hated it. It was such a let down. The whole story was a work in intensity - and then the intensity broke with the most disappointing conclusion. And the message - "This is how the entire course of a life can be changed-by doing nothing."
